Women's ACHA ice hockey fell to Liberty University 5-2 in the first round of the Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) Tournament Thursday evening at the LaHaye Ice Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Lions jumped in front of the Flames early in the opening period when Marina Evert stole the puck and scored unassisted at 5:28, the but the 1-0 advantage was short-lived. Liberty netted the next two at 7:36 and 8:51 to take a 2-1 lead.
Lindenwood quickly found an equalizer just 23-seconds later when
Ardyn Hawryshko sounded the horn for her 15
th goal of the season off a feed from
Loki Antonio, but the Flames went ahead 3-2 at the 12:32 mark. After a scoreless second, they added a pair of goals in the third to pull away.
Liberty outshot the Lions 47-19 and
Evi Allerding stopped 42 of the 47 shots she faced in a losing effort.
Lindenwood faces Minnesota next in the WMCH Tournament. The Gophers were upended by Midland 6-1 in their opening round contest. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 12:45 CST at the LaHaye Ice Center.
