Beach Volleyball Splits Two Matches On Saturday

Lions end their weekend with a 2-2 record

OZARK, Mo. - Lindenwood beach volleyball (2-2, 0-0 OVC) post their second straight day with a split at the Missouri State Tournament hosted in Ozark, Mo. Lindenwood suffered a 5-0 loss to begin the day on Saturday, but bounced back with a 5-0 win against Hendrix College.

The Lions battled during their afternoon match against the host school Missouri State on Saturday, but fell by a final score of 5-0. Missouri State (4-0) would go undefeated in their tournament to start the season.

Lindenwood's number one pair of Maider Soto and Katie Malzahn lost their first match of the season by scores of 22-20 and 21-18 to MSU's Becca Bach and Manuela Niemeyer.

Taylor Gentemann and Nyah Wilson also lost in the number two pairs by final scores of 21-15 and 21-13. Abby Jacobs and Annalie McWhorter had a close two set loss at the number three spot with scores of 21-18 and 21-13.

The four pair of Jessie Seidel and Kailee McGee (21-10 and 21-17) and five pair of Amber Schade and Elise Llorens (21-11 and 21-14) also lost on Saturday in their first match.

Lindenwood bounced back with their second sweep of the season after taking down Hendrix (4-3) by a final score of 5-0. The Lions managed to leave Ozark, Mo. with a .500 record at 2-2.

Malzahn and Soto bounced back in the number one spot against Hendrix winning in two sets by scores of 21-18 and 21-16. Wilson and Gentemann also were able to erase their earlier loss with a two set win by scores of 21-11 and 21-14.

All three remaining matches went into overtime, managing to go to three sets. McWhorter and Jacobs secured the third win of the afternoon with scores of 15-21, 21-18 and 15-10 against Hendrix's Morgan Ford and Kailey Carrico.

Seidel and McGee also avenged their earlier loss with a three set win with scores of 21-15, 27-29 and 15-13. Schade and Llorens capped off the evening with a win in the five pairing with scores of 14-21, 21-11 and 15-13.

Lindenwood will return to the sand next weekend for the second Missouri State tournament starting on Friday, March 1. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
