The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (2-6, 0-2 MIVA) fell 3-1 to No. 6 Ohio State (7-2, 1-0 MIVA) on Sunday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.
MATCH OVERVIEW
It was a back-and-forth match early, as the two teams traded points until 10-10. Lindenwood gained some separation with a mini 4-0 run, capped off by a
RaShawn Bonner kill, which resulted in an Ohio State timeout. The Lions continued their strong play after the break, using the momentum to take a 19-13 lead in the first stanza. Ohio State responded with a 6-1 run of its own to draw closer at 20-19. The seesaw set continued until Bonner ended it with a service ace at 32-30. The Lions used a solid .486 hit percentage to grab a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set once again started 10-10, and the Buckeyes used a 5-2 run to take a 15-12 lead. The home squad maintained a slight advantage throughout the set and were able to even the match at 1-1 after winning the second, 25-20.
Ohio State jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the third and they continued to hold an advantage as the set went on at 13-9. The Buckeyes carried the momentum throughout the fourth, winning the set 25-17 and taking a 2-1 lead in the match overall.
The Buckeyes took a 10-7 lead early in the fourth set but Lindenwood registered the next three points after a big block by
Aidan Curcuru and
A.J. Lewis tied things up at 10-10. Â After OSU responded with a 3-0 run of its own, each team traded points until the Buckeyes gained some separation at 19-15. Ohio State finished off the set and the match after winning it 25-18.
