Beach Volleyball Gets Two Wins On Friday

Lions will play two more on Saturday

OZARK, Mo. -  Lindenwood beach volleyball (4-2, 0-0) picked up two wins on Friday afternoon at their second Missouri State tournament of the season. The Lions picked up their third and fourth wins of the season.

"Today was a big success all around," said interm head coach Tyler Fenton. "Coming in to our second weekend it was clear that the group was focused in practice this week and came ready to compete."

Lindenwood - 5
Oklahoma Wesleyan - 0 

The Lions picked up their third sweep of the season and their second win over Oklahoma Wesleyan with a 5-0 victory in Ozark, Mo. The Lions are 3-0 all-time against OWU including two wins this year.

Maider Soto and Katie Malzahn started the day off with a 2-0 sweep in the number one pair with scores of 21-13 and 21-7 over OWU's Allison Howard and Sydney Collins. The duo of Soto and Malzahn are 5-1 to start their second year as a pair.

Nyah Wilson and Taylor Gentemann also picked up a 2-0 sweep at the number two spot with scores of 21-10 and 21-11. Annalie McWhorter and Abby Jacobs also secured a win at the number three spot with scores of 21-17 and 21-9.

Jessie Seidel and Kailee McGee were red hot in the four pair picking up a 2-0 win with set scores of 21-9 and 21-12. Elise Llorens and Amber Schade ended the match with scores of 21-6 (lowest score by an opponent) and 21-14.

Maider Soto and Katie Malzahn continued their strong start to the weekend with a 2-0 sweep of Park's Julia Alvarez and Szonja Stollar with scores of 21-12 and 21-14. Taylor Gentemann/Nyah Wilson and Jessie Seidel/Kailee McGee would drop hard three set loses at the number two and three pairs.

Annalie McWhorter and Abby Jacobs added the second win vs. the Pirates with scores of 21-14 and 21-16. Elise Llorens and Amber Schade secured the win at the number five pair with a resounding 2-0 score to win the match.

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday as they face the host school Missouri State and Southwest Baptist. Matches start for the Lions at 1:00 p.m. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
