MOUNT PLEASANT, MICH. – On Friday afternoon, the Lindenwood women's lacrosse team matched up against the Central Michigan Chippewas. The Lions would defeat the Chippewas 16-12, after trailing by three goals at the end of the first quarter.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first quarter, Central Michigan was able to strike first at 14:17. At 13:50,
Isabella Rulapaugh would get the Lions on the board. Almost three minutes later,
Reese Krieger would net her first goal of the game, giving the Lions their first lead of the day. The Chippewas would score the next four goals leading 5-2 going into the second frame.
In the second quarter, the Lions would start off strong, scoring the first two goals of the period at 14:21 and 13:39.
Logann Eldredge and
Alissa Digiacinto would be attributed the first two goals of the period for the Lions, cutting their deficit with the Chippewas to one. A minute later, the Chippewas would net their first goal of the period. The Lions would bounce back, scoring three straight goals to regain the one goal lead.
Sara Grieco, Rulapaugh, and Krieger would be attributed with the goals. At 6:27, the Chippewas would tie the game up at 7-7. The Lions would get the final answer in the period, coming from
Meredith Parry from the free position. After two quarters of play, Lindenwood would lead 8-7.
In the third quarter, the Lions were able to strike first with Krieger scoring her third goal of the game. At 9:41, the Chippewas would net their eighth goal of the goal, bringing the Lions lead back to one. The Lions would score the next two goals bringing their lead to three, coming at 8:38 and 8:12. Grieco and Rulapaugh would be attributed with the goals. At 4:32, Central Michigan would score, bringing the Lions lead to two. The Lions would score the last two goals in the frame, coming at 4:00 and 0:01, which came from
Emily Mowbray and
Kiley Davis. With one final frame left to go, the Lions would lead 13-9.
In the fourth quarter, the Chippewas would score first at 14:31, bringing the score to 13-10, advantage to Lindenwood. The Lions would bounce back, scoring a pair of goals with the Lions leading by five with 12:41 to go. The Chippewas would score the next two goals trailing by three with 2:56 to go in the frame. The Lions would score the final goal of the game, extending their lead back to four.
Haylie Sims got the nod in net, making nine saves. After this matchup, Lindenwood moved to 8-1. In this matchup,
Ryleigh Cavanaugh broke the draw control record, picking up 19 draw controls.
