ST. CHARLES, MO. – On Wednesday, women's lacrosse took on Youngstown State. The Lions would defeat the Penguins 17-10, after a strong offensive effort in the second half. In this matchup, the Lions would break the program record for the most wins in a season, since moving to NCAA Division I.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first quarter, Youngstown started off the with the first two goals of the game at 10:16 and 8:53.
Logann Eldredge would notch the first goal of the game for the Lions at 7:35. At 5:04,
Alissa Digiacinto would provide the equalizer, tying the game up at 2-2. Almost two minutes later, the Penguins regained the one-goal lead. Lindenwood would score the final two goals of the period, coming from Eldredge. After one quarter of play, Lindenwood would lead 4-3.
In the second, Youngstown would strike first at 13:04, tying the game up at 4-4.
Sara Grieco would score for the Lions at 12:15 to regain the one-goal lead. Lindenwood and Youngstown would trade off the next four goals, with the Lions leading 7-6, with 6:07 left in the period. Youngstown would have the final answer in the period, with the match tied at 7-7 at half.
In the third quarter, Lindenwood would tally two goals early, coming from Eldredge. At 8:43, the Penguins would find their first score of the second half. Lindenwood would score the next four goals with the final goal of the stretch coming in at 2:05. The Penguins would have the final answer of the period, with the Lions leading 13-9 after three quarters of play.
In the fourth,
Sara Grieco would score a pair at 14:42 and 12:44, extending Lindenwood's lead to six. Youngstown would retaliate, scoring at 8:30, cutting their deficit with the Lions to five. Lindenwood would score the final two goals of the game, coming from Digiacinto and Eldredge.
After this matchup, Lindenwood improves to 9-1 on the season. Eldredge in the matchup broke the program record in points in a single-game with 13, previously held by Melissa Smith in 2014 against Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
