Men’s Lacrosse Falls 10-7 to Cleveland State at Home

ST. CHARLES, MO. – On Saturday afternoon, the Lindenwood men's lacrosse team hosted Cleveland State to start of Atlantic Sun (ASUN) play. The Lions would be defeated by the Vikings, 10-7.

GAME OVERVIEW
In a tightly contested quarter, there was only one goal scored in the quarter, brought out by strong goalie play and defensive play. At 6:24 in the period, Lindenwood's Connor Engel would find the back of the net, scoring the first goal of the game. After one quarter, the Lions led the Vikings 1-0.

In the second quarter, Flint Thielen would get the Lions on the board, scoring from an on-the-run shot, extending the Lions lead with 13:21 left to go in the quarter. The Vikings would score the last three goals in the quarter, finding their first lead of the game, and leading 3-2 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Lions would start off the quarter scoring four straight goals with the final goal of the stretch coming at 3:43. Up to this point the Lions would lead 6-3. With 1:17 to go in the period, Cleveland State would find their first answer of the second half, cutting the Lions lead to two. After three quarters of play, Lindenwood would lead the Vikings, 6-4. Goal scorers for the Lions in third included two from Thielen, one from Adrian Thompson, and one from Engel.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings would score the first two goals of the period, tying the game up at 6-6. At 7:53, Noah Wehrman would score the only goal for the Lions in the final frame. Before the end of the game, the Vikings would go on a four-goal run with their last two goals coming in with less than 30 seconds left.
After this matchup, Lindenwood moved to 0-4 on the year. AJ Preachuk got the nod in net for the Lions making eight saves. Thielen led Lindenwood in scoring on the day, tallying three goals and one assist.
