Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Akron 14-7

AKRON, OHIO – On Wednesday, women's lacrosse took on the University of Akron. The Lions would come out victorious after a strong offensive effort, winning 14-7.

GAME OVERVIEW
In the first quarter, the Lions were able to strike first, coming from an Isabella Rulapaugh shot at 12:25. The Lions would continue their scoring, tallying a pair at 10:34 and 9:51. At 9:14, the Zips found their first goal of the game, trailing 3-1. The Lions would rebound, scoring five straight goals before the end of the period. The Zips would score the final goal of the period with five seconds left, with the Lions leading 8-2 after one quarter. Goals scorers for the Lions in the first frame includes Rulapaugh, Logann Eldredge, Reese Krieger, Alissa Digiacinto, Sara Grieco, and Emily Mowbray.

In the second quarter, scoring was stifled with two total goals in the period being scored, with both of them coming from the Lions. Goal scorers in the second period were Kiley Davis and Rulapaugh. After one half of play, the Lions led 10-2.

Starting off the third quarter, Rulapaugh would score to put the Lions up 11-2 eleven seconds into the period. Forty seconds later, Davis would notch her second goal of the game to put the Lions up ten. At 10:18 in the frame, the Zips would find their first goal of the second half, cutting the Zips deficit with the Lions to nine. Lindenwood would go on a two-goal run before the end of the quarter leading 14-4. Akron would score the final goal of the period with thirty-five seconds left. After three, the Lions would lead 15-5.

In the fourth, the Lions would be held scoreless in the final quarter of play. The Zips, would score three goals in the frame, cutting the Lions lead to eight.

After this matchup, the Lions moved to 6-1 on the year. Haylie Sims started in net for the Lions, making four saves. Elizabeth Goth, would relieve Sims in the latter part of the third quarter and would make two saves.

"We are happy with the fast start we got off to today and the competitive fire we played with for sixty minutes. We are glad to be leaving Akron with the victory", said head coach Jack Cribbin.
