NEWARK, N.J. -- On Saturday, men's lacrosse took on the NJIT Highlanders. The Lions would drop their matchup with the Highlanders by a score of 18-5.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first quarter, strong defensive play by both teams, kept the first frame low scoring. The Highlanders would score the only goal of the quarter at the 1:55 mark. After one, the Lions would trail 1-0.
In the second quarter, the Lions were able to strike first at 14:10, from a
Flint Thielen right-handed shot from the left wing. Thielen's goal would be assisted by
Ace Nichols. Two minutes later, NJIT would find the back of the net, which would turn into a four-goal run. At 8:27,
Noah Wehrman would the net for the Lions, cutting the Highlanders lead to three. The Highlanders would go on another four-goal run before the end of the period. After two quarters, the Lions trail 9-2.
In the third quarter, NJIT would score the first two goals of the period, extending their lead by nine. At 10:25, Wehrman would find his second goal of the game, cutting the Highlanders lead to eight. Wehrman's goal would be assisted by
Adrian Thompson. The Highlanders would go on a three-goal run scoring their final goal and the Highlanders final goal of the period at 2:02. The Lions would find the back of the net once more before the end of the period, with 0:11 to go.
Flint Thielen would attributed the goal assisted by
Adrian Thompson. After three quarters of play, the Lions trail the Highlanders 14-4.
In the fourth, NJIT would be able to score first at 12:40. Three minutes later,
Zackery Ough would tally the Lions fifth goal of the game, with the Lions trailing 15-5 with 9:37 left to go in the final frame. NJIT would score three straight goals before the end of the game, extending their lead to thirteen.
After this matchup, the Lions moved to 0-3 on the season.
AJ Preachuk started in net for the Lions making ten stops. Thielen and Wehrman, led the Lions on the day in points with two.
