CHARLESTON, Ill. - Lindenwood beach volleyball (11-05, 4-2 OVC) clinched their third straight win with a 3-2 victory over the Panthers of Eastern Illinois (3-9, 0-6 OVC). The Lions swept the Lions in the season series 2-0 and are not 4-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
"Road wins are always big wins," said interim head coach Tyler Fenton. "The team did a great job of battling the elements, winning big points and making plays. We knew Eastern would raise their level at home and on their senior day, but we did a great job of matching their effort and earning a key road victory."
Maider Soto and
Nyah Wilson came up huge for the Lions securing the match in the number one pairing with a 2-0 win with set scores of 21-13 and 21-8. The dup is now 5-2 together at the number one slot.
Jessie Seidel and
Annalie McWhorter also were victories at the number three pair with another 2-0 sweep and set scores of 21-12 and 21-7. Normally at the four pair, the duo helped the Lions clinch their fourth OVC win.
Amber Schade and
Elise Llorens started the day off hot for the Lions in Charleston with a 2-0 win over the five pair of Eastern Illinois with scores of 21-17 and 21-10. All three pairs also won against EIU earlier last week.
Taylor Gentemann and
Abby VanBuskirk suffered a loss at the number four spot with scores of 21-16 and 21-19.
Abby Jacobs and
Katie Malzahn also lost at the number two pairings with scores of 22-20 and 21-19.
Lindenwood will have the weekend off before traveling to Martin, Tenn. for the final OVC Weekend of the season as they start with Tennessee Techat 8:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19th. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
