CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lindenwood men's volleyball team faced off against the Queens Royals for the second time on the weekend. The Lions would pull a 3-1 victory over the Royals to extend their win streak to six.
MATCH OVERVIEW
In set one, the Royals got off to a strong start, scoring four straight points. Lindenwood earned its first point on an
Ian Schuller kill. The Lions and Royals traded off the next two points, with the Royals leading 5-1. Queens would go on a three-point stretch, extending their lead to six. Lindenwood would rebound with a three-point stretch of their own, cutting the Lion's deficit to three. For much of the set, the Lions would trail the Royals, until the Lions would take the lead at 24-23. Eventually the Lions would take the first set 30-28, with
Clay Wieter and Lewis registering kills on the last two points.
In set two, Lindenwood scored the first point. Both teams traded off the next two points. The Royals scored the next three points to take the 4-1 lead. The Lions continued to battle tying the set at 6-6. The set remained back and forth, until the Royals went on a 7-3 run in the latter part of the frame, with the Royals taking the set 25-21.
In set three, the Lions would dominate winning the set 26-16. Starting off the set, the Royals would be given the first point off an attack error by Lindenwood. Lindenwood would bounce back, scoring six straight points. After giving up a point, making the score 6-2 advantage Lindenwood, the Lions would find momentum scoring four straight points, extending their to eight. The Lions would continue to pour it on, with Lindenwood leading 16-4 at one point. The Royals would make a run later on in the set, but succumbed to the Lions early set success.
In set four, the Royals struck first. Lindenwood, starting off the set, outscored the Royals 7-3. The Royals roared back, tying the set at 8-8. The Lions would go on another run, finding their largest lead at 16-11. Queens would close their deficit to one at 18-17. Lindenwood would rebound, scoring five straight points, leading 23-17 with just two more points to win the set. Queens would try and make a comeback, closing the Lions lead to 24-20. Lewis would be attributed the final kill of set to win the set 25-20, and to win the match 3-1.
After this matchup, the Lions improved to 13-11 on the season and 8-7 in conference play, earning the fourth seed in the conference tournament. Schuller led the Lions in kills with 15.
