Women’s Soccer Wins 2-0 Over IU Indy

ST. CHARLES, MO. – On Thursday, the Lindenwood women's soccer team in their home opener hosted IU Indy. The Lions would win 2-0 over the Jaguars.

GAME OVERVIEW
In the first half, the Lions defense would hold the Jaguars scoreless, leaving them with only three shots in the frame. In the 28th minute, Eyglo Thorsteinsdottir would break the ice, scoring off a header into the top-right corner, to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Thorsteinsdottir's goal would be scored off a Tasneem Dizdarevic corner kick. Four minutes later, Lindenwood would be fouled in the box leading to a penalty kick. Anna Johnson would take the penalty kick, putting it in the bottom-right corner, extending Lindenwood's lead to two. After one half of play, Lindenwood would lead 2-0. Lindenwood outshot the Jaguars 4-3 in the frame.
 
In the second half, the Jaguars would find their form offensively, recording eight shots with three of them being on net. Lindenwood's strong defensive play would hold them scoreless in the frame. Lindenwood would have four shots in the frame, with two of them being on target.
 
Caroline Ritter made her debut in net, making four saves and recording her first career shutout.
 
After the match, Lindenwood moved to 2-1-0 on the season.

"This was a quality win over a very talented opponent. I'm proud of our team for sticking with the script, doing the hard work defensively, and our in-possession moments are improving each week. We have a lot of new pieces so it's a continued growth mentality with this team," said head coach Dave Musso.
