Men's Volleyball Battles No. 2 Long Beach State in Three Sets

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (1-1) fought hard, but fell 3-0 to No. 2 Long Beach State (2-0) on Wednesday night inside Hyland Arena.

MATCH OVERVIEW
Long Beach won the race to 10 in the first set and grabbed an early 10-6 lead. The Beach maintained a comfortable advantage at the media and late into the set. Lindenwood kept battling, however. When down 19-14, Lindenwood went on a 4-0 run to pull within one at 19-18. The Black and Gold eventually tied it up at 21 apiece with a kill through the middle from Aidan Curcuru. Long Beach got the next three points, but Lindenwood followed it up with the next two, including a termination from Ian Schuller. The Beach would hang onto the set at 25-23.

The second set was a back-and forth battle with neither team going up by more than two points at the media as the score was 15-14 in favor of the visitors. Long Beach eventually pulled ahead 20-17, but Lindenwood got it back to within one at 21-20 as a Schuller kill forced a beach timeout. Long Beach rattled off the next four points to take the set, 25-20 and go up 2-0 in the match. The Lions hit .360 in each of the first two frames.

In the third set, Long Beach took control early and went up by as many as six at 17-11. The Lions kept at it and got within four at 21-17 after a Brendan Louthain kill. The Beach would see the set out, however and finished it off at 25-21 and picked up the sweep on Wednesday night.
