Women's Volleyball Drops First Match Against Morehead State

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (6-8, 2-4 OVC) fell 3-0 against Morehead State (10-5, 4-0 OVC) in Hyland Arena on Friday evening.

Match Overview
The Lions held early leads in all three sets but were unable to hold off a soaring Eagles attack. Morehead took the opening frame behind a 15-0 scoring run as they hit .500 as a team in the set.

Lindenwood responded to take a 3-0 lead in set two, but after a quick 6-1 run put the Eagles ahead 12-8, the Lions were unable to pull within closer than three points for the remainder of the set.

LU kept battling in set three and held a 19-16 advantage, but MSU outscored Lindenwood 9-4 out of a timeout to close out the match.

Match Notes
  • The loss moves Lindenwood's all-time record against Morehead State to 2-6, including a 1-2 mark at home.
  • It was the fourth consecutive three-setter between the two teams, with the Eagles sweeping twice during the 2024 regular season before the Lions broke out the brooms in last season's OVC Championship match.
  • Ashley Geluck recorded a team-high 14 kills on a season-best .500 hitting percentage.
  • Autumn Bax recorded double-digit digs (10) for the third time this month after having never posted more than six digs in her first 41 appearances for the Lions.
  • Amelia Thro recorded a new career-high of 25 assists, averaging 8.33 assists per set.
Quotable
"We obviously are not satisfied with the result. Our frustration as a staff is we can see the improvement in practice and we can see the moments where things are falling into place. The hardest part is consistency and that is what we are struggling to maintain. We believe in this group and I know they are frustrated. They want to win, they want to perform but this level is hard and you have to figure out what works best for you to be successful." - Will Condon
