Lindenwood track and field freshman Alessandra Obrist is set to compete in the Central American Games for Guatemala on Monday, October 20 at 3:00 p.m. Obrist will be taking part in the pole vault competition.
A native of Rolla, Mo., Obrist grew up in the United State, but has dual citizenship with Guatemala will have her first opportunity at the national level next week. "This competition is very important to me, although I grew up in the United States, my roots are in Guatemala," said Obrist. This competition is a way to connect with my culture and to make my country proud."
In high school at Rolla, Obrist was a conference, district, and sectional champion, while finishing seventh in state in class 5.
"I'm very excited for Aless to have her first opportunity on the international level," said head coach Kayla Kregel. "This experience is only going to prepare her for other big meets at the NCAA level and also the international level over the next 4 years. It's also exciting to have Lindenwood Track represented at an international level. There are some exciting days ahead for our program!"
ABOUT THE CENTRAL AMERICAN GAMES
The Central American Games (CAGs), known as the Juegos Centroamericanos, are made up of seven participating countries from Central America – Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize, and Guatemala. This multi-sport regional championship is held every four years, the year following the Summer Olympics. The competition is organized by Organizacion Deportiva Centroamericana (ORDECA).
