UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Lindenwood Women's Hockey team fell to #6 Penn State on Friday afternoon by a score of 6-1.
Molly Henderson had the game's first shot on goal 30 seconds into the game, but the Nittany Lions responded with the next six shots on goal, all of which were stopped by
Lexington Secreto who got the start in net for Lindenwood.
Later in the period, Penn State went on the power play after
Hannah Dods was called for hooking that prevented the Nittany Lions from creating a scoring chance on a two-on-one opportunity. The Penalty Kill unit stepped up like they have all year long, but this time the Lions would score their first short handed goal of the season with 30 seconds to go on the PSU Power Play.
Michaela Paulinyova stole the puck at the top of the blue line and had a breakaway from center ice, making one deke to the right, coming back to her left, and creating enough space to shoot the puck to a wide open left side of the net to put the Lions in front 1-0. The lead held for the remainder of the first period as Secreto kept Lindenwood in front, finishing the period with 21 saves.
In the second period, Lindenwood drew a penalty 31 seconds into the frame to receive their first Power Play of the afternoon. However, the Nittany Lions scored a short-handed goal of their own a minute later to tie the game at one. Penn State then added three more goals later in the period, including one on the Power Play, to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. The third period saw Penn State score two more goals to take the first game of the series 6-1. The Lions finished the contest with 12 shots on goal, led by
Tatiana Blichova and
Zsofia Pazmandi who each had three.
Lindenwood will wrap up their series with Penn State tomorrow afternoon with puck drop set for 12 p.m. CT.
