Men's Hockey Suffers Second Consecutive Overtime Loss

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (3-5-0) lost to Miami (OH) (6-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) 5-4 in overtime for the second consecutive night at Centene Community Ice Center on Saturday. Both teams traded blows throughout the contest, with the RedHawks ultimately prevailing behind a three-score performance by forward Ryan Smith.

Game Overview
There was no hangover for Lindenwood coming off Friday night's tough loss, as they opened the scoring with an Olivier Houde goal 7:43 into the opening period. Houde received a pass from Charles Savoie in the center of the slot before burying the puck into the back of the net. Giovanni Morneau also assisted on the play.

Lindenwood outshot Miami 13-6 in the period, but the game entered the first intermission tied at one apiece following a long-range goal from Ryan Smith that was assisted by Helgeson and Lukashevich.

Smith scored his second goal of the night 2:27 into the second period to give Miami their first lead of the contest, but their advantage was short lived as Louis-Philippe Fontaine got free in front of the net before powering the puck past the RedHawk keeper on a feed from Jake Southgate just 25 seconds later.

The Lions would then recapture the lead 6:35 into the frame with Olivier Houde scoring his second goal of the evening on a three-on-one rush on an assist from Charles Savoie.

However, Miami (OH) would respond with a pair of goals 55 seconds apart by Maximillion Helgeson and Justin Stupka midway through the period that put the RedHawks back 4-3. Lindenwood countered later in the frame, with Adam Raesler scoring off the rebound of a shot by Jaeden Mercier. Mercier and Jacob Fletcher were credited with assists on the play.

The Lions would take 14 shots on goal in the third period compared to just six for the RedHawks but were unable to find the go-ahead score and the contest headed to overtime for the second consecutive night. In the extra period, Miami's Ryan Smith would complete the hat trick with 1:32 remaining, scoring off the rebound of a shot by Ilia Morozov to win the game.
