Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lions, Beerman Shutout Ferris State 1-0

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (4-5-0) outlasted Ferris State (1-6-0, 0-2-0 CCHA) for a 1-0 victory on the road on Friday night. It was the Lions' first shutout win of the season.

Game Overview
Neither team was able to find a goal in the opening period with both sides squandering a power play opportunity apiece. The Lions took just five shots on goal in the period while Liam Beerman started his night in net with seven saves.

The Bulldogs were the aggressors offensively coming out of the first intermission, taking the first seven shots of the second period. FSU opened up a 14-5 advantage in shots on target before Louis-Philippe Fontaine flipped the game on its head with a goal assisted by Jake Southgate and Ethan Zielke that gave Lindenwood a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the period.

It would prove to be enough for Liam Beerman, who recorded the first shutout of his collegiate career with 31 total saves, including 14 in the third period. It completed the first shutout performance for Lindenwood since January 10th of last season, when the Lions defeated Stonehill 3-0.

The Lindenwood penalty kill unit killed off four FSU power plays, including three in the game's back half, to help secure the win.

The Lions ended the game with just 17 shots, their lowest total of the season.

Fontaine's second period goal was his fourth of the season, and his second game-winner. Southgate is now third on the team with seven points (1 goal – 6 assists).

Quotable
"Great win on the road! We didn't have our best tonight but found a way to win. Liam Beerman was great in net!" – Keith Fisher
