Preview
The Lindenwood women's soccer team travels to Little Rock this weekend for a top of the table tilt against the Trojans. The Lions have already secured a top four finish in the OVC but could clinch at least a share of the conference title with a win. Kickoff from Coleman Sports Complex is scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Lions won their third straight match with a dramatic comeback victory at Southern Indiana last Sunday. LU trailed 1-0 with less than 15 minutes remaining, but a pair of late goals from
Kaylee Conoyer and Jessica Dunn, followed by a diving penalty kick save by
Caroline Ritter in the 85th minute, secured a massive three points for Lindenwood.
Notes to Know
OFFENSE: Lindenwood has 18 goals this season, which ranks them fourth in the OVC. Their 14.44 shots per game average is second in the conference.
PIECE BY PIECE: Half of Lindenwood's 18 goals this season have come on set pieces, including a conference-leading five penalty kicks, three corner kicks, and one free kick. The Lions are second in the OVC with 92 total corners and continue to create dangerous chances from restarts.
SPREADING THE WEALTH: Eleven different Lions have found the back of the net this season.
Anna Johnson leads the team with four goals, all of which have been game winners. Allison Schumpf has scored three times while
Mackenzie Compton andÂ
Tasneem Dizdarevic have chipped in two.
LEADERS: Johnson also leads the squad with 10 points, adding a pair of assists to her goal total. Her 14 shots on goal also pace the squad while Compton leads the team in total shots with 52, which is most in the OVC.
DEFENSE: The Lions have allowed just 15 goals in 16 matches (0.94 per game), which is second fewest in the OVC.
Caroline Ritter ranks third in the OVC with a .819 save percentage and leads the conference with nine clean sheets.
WINNING THE WHISTLE: Lindenwood has drawn 188 fouls this season while conceding a conference-low 116, creating a steady advantage in set-piece opportunities.
OVC AT A GLANCE: Lindenwood sits at third place in the conference standings at 16 points. They trail Little Rock and Tennessee Tech, who are tied atop the table at 18 points. Eastern Illinois rounds out the top four with 16 points of their own. Southern Indiana (12 points), UT Martin (9 points), and SIUE (9 points) have also locked up their spots in the OVC Tournament field, with SEMO (7 points) and Morehead State (4 points) playing this weekend to determine who receives the final spot.
CHAMPIONSHIP SCENARIOS: With a win and Tennessee Tech loss to Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood will win the OVC regular season title outright and host the conference tournament. With a win and Tennessee Tech draw, the Lions will be named co-champions and enter the tournament as the two-seed due to the Golden Eagles holding the head-to-head tie breaker. If Lindenwood and Tech both win, TTU wins the title outright while LU finishes in second. A draw or loss, plus an EIU draw or loss will place Lindenwood in third place, while an EIU win accompanied by a LU draw or loss will see the Lions finish fourth.
