The Lindenwood men's golf team captured the Missouri State Intercollegiate title with a score of 857.
Francisco Gavilan Fernandez earned medalist by two strokes, shooting 205.
OVERVIEW
The Lions opened the tournament with a season-low 277, which was led by
Francisco Gavilan Fernandez who shot a seven-under 64. The Spanish native had eight birdies to just one bogey on his opening round card. He was closely followed by Owen shy who recorded a five-under 66, which included six birdies. Five Lions shot under par on the front nine, including
Jan Wdowka and
Samuel Bergenstein who each shot one under. Wdowka and Bergenstein finished their round with a 73 and 74, respectively. Rounding out the lineup was
Santiago Juesas Benet with a 78. Individually,
Ludvig Behring shot a 73.
Lindenwood kept the momentum going in round two, shooting a 288 as a team, once again led by Gavilan with a 70. Wdowka also carded a second round 7- which included five birdies, four of which came on the front nine. Bergenstein came in just behind them with a 73, followed by Juesas with a 75. Juesas eagled par 5 12
th during his round. Shy finished the second 18 with a 76. After 36 holes, Gavilan was in first by four strokes and
Owen Shy sat in ninth. As a team, Lindenwood was two shots ahead of Bradley and in first.
In round three, Lindenwood shot a 292 as a team, led by an even-par 71 by Gavilan. Wdowka came in just behind him, shooting a 73, while Bergenstein and Juesas each carded a 74. Rounding out the lineup was Shy with a 77. Behring carded a 74 as an individual.
Lindenwood and Bradley went back-and-forth all day long and the Lions were able to win it by one stroke. Gavilan earned medalist by two strokes, finishing the tournament eight-under par.
