MANKATO, MN. - Lindenwood Women's Hockey (0-5-0, 0-0-0 AHA) lost to Minnesota State on Friday evening by a score of 4-0. The Mavericks scored at least one goal in every period, including two in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Lindenwood had an early power play opportunity four minutes into the first period, but was unable to convert and didn't record a shot with the man-advantage. The Lions took nine shots in the opening frame, with nine different skaters recording a shot on target.
In the second period, the Mavericks added a third goal 54 seconds in to extend their lead to 3-0. The penalty kill unit came up big for the Lions in period two, as they killed off four power plays without allowing a goal to keep the score at 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.
Lexington Secreto made 21 saves in the period, setting a new season-high for saves in a single period. Minnesota State scored their fourth goal of the game midway through the third period and allowed just five Lindenwood shots in the final period to pick up the 4-0 victory.
The Lions finished the game with 17 shots with four of them coming off the stick of
Silje Gundersen, and Secreto set another career-high in saves with 41. The Lions will wrap up their series with Minnesota State tomorrow afternoon with puck drop set for 3:02 p.m.Â
