ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Lindenwood Women's Hockey picked up their second win of the season and their first win in the AHA with a 3-0 shutout win over RIT on Friday afternoon.
Madison Bowtell made a career-high 39 saves and recorded her first career 60 minute shutout in the victory over the Tigers, while
Ellie Muscedere,
Molly Henderson, and
Tatiana Blichova each scored a goal for the Lions.
In the first period, the Lions threatened immediately as
Zsofia Pazmandi and
Ellen Wigermo each recorded a shot on goal 30 seconds in. Two minutes later, Lindenwood went on the power play and recorded four shots on goal during the five-on-four sequence. The best chance for the Lions on the Power Play came 30 seconds in after
Tatiana Blichova fired a shot from the left circle that created a rebound. On the rebound, Pazmandi had a great look and shot the puck to the open right side of the net but the RIT goaltender made a save to keep the game tied at zero. Later in the period, the Lions got on the board thanks to
Ellie Muscedere's first goal of the season. Pazmandi got around her defender on the left side of the ice, deked to the middle of the zone, and sent a pass to
Michaela Paulinyova. Paulinyova received the puck and passed to the right side of the zone where Muscedere was all alone for the goal. The Lions finished the period with 10 shots on goal and Bowtell stopped all 19 shots that she faced in the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second period, the Lions killed off two penalties to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard. The Penalty Kill unit had two blocks and Bowtell added three total saves on both RIT Power Plays. Lindenwood extended their lead to 2-0 on their third Power Play goal of the season later in the period as
Molly Henderson redirected a shot by
Josey Dunne-Weeks in front of the net. The Lions would take the two goal lead into the third period despite having 16 shots on goal compared to the Tigers 32.
Lindenwood added their third goal of the game in the third period as
Molly Henderson retrieved the puck in the Lion's defensive zone and skated up the ice towards the neutral zone. Henderson fell down as she approached the Lion's offensive zone and was able to find a wide open
Tatiana Blichova in the middle of the ice, who snuck the puck through the legs of the Tigers goaltender to seal the victory for the Lions.
Zsofia Pazmandi and
Molly Henderson led the offensive charge this afternoon as both recorded two points in the contest. Pazmandi assisted on the goals scored by Muscedere and Henderson, while Henderson scored the Lion's second goal of the game and assisted on the third goal late in the third period. Pazmandi also led Lindenwood in shots on goal with four, as the Lions finished the game with 22 total shots on goal.
Lindenwood wraps up their series with RIT tomorrow afternoon with puck drop set for 12 p.m. CT.
