Women's Hockey Finishes Series At RIT With A Split

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Lindenwood Women's Hockey team stumbled in the series finale with the RIT Tigers on Saturday afternoon by a score of 7-1. The Tigers scored six unanswered goals in the second and third periods as the Lions finished with a split on the road in their second AHA series of the season.

The first half of period one saw both teams combine for 10 shots on goal with the Lions having six compared to RIT's four. The Tigers put the pressure on Lindenwood later in the period after the Lions blocked four straight shots in a row to keep the game tied at zero just before the media timeout. Following the timeout, RIT scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead with just under seven minutes to go in the first.

The Lions responded with a goal of their own four minutes later as Nicole Pietrucha created a turnover in the Lion's defensive zone leading to a breakaway. As Pietrucha approached the RIT goaltender, one of the RIT defenders took a delayed penalty as she disrupted Pietrucha's ability to get a shot off. The Power Play wouldn't happen for the Lions as Pietrucha gathered the puck from behind the RIT net and scored on a wrap around to put Lindenwood on the board to tie the game at one after 20 minutes of action.

In the second period, the Tigers scored twice within the first three minutes to take a 3-1 lead. A minute after RIT scored their second goal of the period, Lindenwood was awarded a Power Play, but the Lions were unable to convert and recorded just one shot on goal with the man-advantage. Following the power play by the Lions, RIT added three more goals to take control of the game pushing their lead to 6-1 with 20 minutes to go. The Tigers extended their lead even further in the third period to take the final game of the series 7-1.

Lindenwood finished the contest with 30 shots on goal as Tatiana Blichova led the team with five.

The Lions return to Centene Community Ice Center next weekend as they will host Syracuse on November 7 and 8. Puck drop on November 7 will be at 4 p.m.
