Men's Soccer Picks Up A Point With Tie Against SIUE

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood Men's Soccer picked up their 10th conference point of the season on Thursday evening as they tied with SIUE at home by a score of 0-0. The Cougars limited the Lions to just four shots on goal in the contest while recording eight of their own on 19 shot attempts.

In the first half, SIUE had several offensive opportunities but couldn't convert thanks to great saves made by goalkeeper Gavin Roberts. In the 11th minute, SIUE sent a cross pass towards the box as the attacker got in front of the Lion defense. The ball would land at the foot of the Cougar's Hugo Cornish, but Roberts would deny Cornish on the shot attempt to keep the game scoreless. Later in the half, SIUE's Zach Renz created space in the open field and fired a shot from 20 yards out. Roberts would again come up huge for the Lions, jumping towards the top of the crossbar and knocking the ball over the net. The Senior goalkeeper finished the first half with four saves, as the Cougars outshot the Lions 8-4 in the opening 45 minutes of play.

Lindenwood's best scoring opportunity came late in the first half after the Lions were awarded a free kick from just outside of the box after SIUE was called for a handball. On the ensuing kick, Ethan Blake delivered a great cross to Gavin Csiszar, who sent it towards the back left corner of the goal to Luke Neely who scored on the play. However, Lindenwood was called offsides and the score remained 0-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Cougars continued to put the pressure on the Lion's defense especially late in the half, as they recorded four shots in the final four minutes of the contest. In the 88th minute, the ball would bounce right to an SIUE defender who sent a long through ball towards the direction of Evan Howard. Howard controlled the ball, made a move past a Lion defender and sent a shot towards the top right corner of the goal where Gavin Roberts made a move to his right and knocked the ball out of bounds to once again keep the Cougars off of the scoreboard. On the ensuing corner kick, Howard would again have a great scoring opportunity, but the ball bounced high enough to where he couldn't get a good shot off as Roberts would make the save with under a minute to play.

The Lions finished the game with 10 shots, which was the second fewest shots in a game this season, while Gavin Roberts finished with a career-high eight saves. Lindenwood will return to action on Sunday as they will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on Liberty at 12 pm.
