EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (10-13, 6-9 OVC) fell 1-3 at Southern Indiana (15-12, 11-4 OVC) on Thursday evening. The Lions were unable to sustain their momentum after winning the opening set.
Match Overview
The Lions pounced out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set with
Amelia Thro posting a pair of service aces in the early going. USI battled back to take a 21-20 lead, but LU regrouped and outscored the Screaming Eagles 5-2 through the remainder of the frame to take the set.
Autumn Bax and
Ashley Geluck led the Lions with three kills apiece in the opener.
USI used an 11-1 run in the second set to open a sizable advantage that Lindenwood was unable to overcome despite five kills from
Autumn Bax, as the Screaming Eagles took the set 25-15 to even the match. Then, after building an early lead in the third stanza, USI scored 11 of the last 14 points to win the set 25-13 and the Lions suddenly found themselves behind two sets to one.
Lindenwood looked to have found something in set four, scoring the first three points of the frame, but after an
Autumn Bax kill put the Lions ahead 9-7, USI went on 8-1 run to surge ahead for good on the way to a match-ending 25-19 win.
Autumn Bax led Lindenwood in the contest with 18 kills while also adding nine digs and a block.
Dana Grib had a strong showing defensively, totaling 20 digs for an average of five digs per set.
