NEWARK, DE. – The Lindenwood Women's Hockey team picked up their third straight AHA series split on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 shutout win over the Delaware Blue Hens.
Silje Gundersen scored two goals to lead the Lions offensively, and
Lexington Secreto recorded her first shutout as a Lindenwood Lion making 19 saves in the game.
The Lions scored three goals in the first period to take control of the game early on.
Maddie Slocum scored her first career goal 10:49 into the opening period off an assist from
Pusle Dyring-Andersen, which was her second helper of the season. Less than two minutes later,
Molly Henderson blocked a shot in the Lion's defensive zone that led to Gundersen's first goal of the game. Gundersen gathered the puck from just inside the neutral zone and scored on the breakaway opportunity extending LU's lead to 2-0. Gundersen and Henderson would team up again in the first period with less than three minutes remaining in the first period as Gundersen found Henderson for the Lion's third goal of the game and Lindenwood took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Lions kept the pressure on the Blue Hens in the second period, scoring their fourth goal of the game down a skater on a Delaware power play.
Tatiana Blichova scored Lindenwood's second short handed goal of the season with an assist from
Rhaea Flint to put the Lions in the driver seat with a 4-0 lead four minutes into the second period. The penalty kill was once again excellent, killing off one power play in the second and two power plays in the third to go a perfect 7/7 on the weekend. Lindenwood added their fifth and final goal in the third period on the power play as Silje Gunderson lit the lamp for the second time in the contest to put the Lions up by five goals. That was the only power play goal scored out of five attempts for Lindenwood, going 1/6 on the weekend.
LU outshot Delaware once again, finishing the contest with 40 shots on goal compared to the Blue Hen's 19.
Rhaea Flint led the team in shots on goal with seven and
Silje Gundersen was right behind Flint who had six shots on goal.
Lexington Secreto stopped all 19 shots she faced, picking up her first shutout since October 25, 2024 versus Stonehill.
Lindenwood returns to Centene Community Ice Center next weekend for four straight games. The Lions host Robert Morris next Friday and Saturday with both games set for 12 p.m.
