Men's Hockey Comes from Behind to Sweep Robert Morris

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (7-5-0) extended their current winning streak to four games with a 5-3 comeback win over Robert Morris (2-9-0, 2-2-0 AHA) on Saturday night. The Lions outscored the Colonials 5-1 after allowing a pair of early goals.

Game Overview
In a reversal of Friday night's contest, it was the Colonials bringing the early firepower with a Braden Rourke goal just two minutes into the opening period. Then, just before the ten-minute mark, RMU doubled their lead with a Jackson Reineke score in the waning seconds of an LU penalty kill.

However, as they have throughout the season, Lindenwood remained steady, sticking with their game to find an answer just over two minutes later as Ethan Zielke found the back of the net on a goal assisted by Jake Southgate and Ethan Elias. The Lions kept the pressure on and were rewarded with an equalizer off the stick of Jacob Fletcher at the 13:56 mark. Charles Savoie and Olivier Houde assisted on the play.

The game entered the first intermission all tied up before Michael Bevilacqua connected just over five minutes into the second period to score LU's third straight goal and give the Lions their first lead of the game. Giovanni Morneau and goaltender Klayton Knapp, who played the puck ahead off the glass to create the breakout chance, were credited with assists.

While the Lions were able to grab the lead in the period, it did not go without a couple of missed opportunities. Following a gutsy penalty kill in which LU blocked six shots while Drew Kuzma played without his stick, a pair of back-to-back RMU penalties put the Lions two men up for well over a minute, but they were unable to convert on the power play.

A few minutes later, Jake Southgate was tripped in front of the net on a breakaway, but he was unable to convert on the penalty shot and LU entered the second intermission still only up by one goal.

After an unsportsmanlike conduct call at the end of the second period put RMU on the power play coming out of the break, the Colonials cashed in with a Ryan Taylor goal to pull back to even.

However, the Lions had a lot more left in the tank, and after pulling the goalie on a delayed penalty call, Lindenwood made the most of the man advantage with a Louis-Philippe Fontaine goal assisted by Ethan Elias and Giovanni Morneau to go back in front. Anselmo Rego would then double the LU lead with a score at the 11:05 mark that was helped along by Brody Mortensen and Giovanni Morneau.

The Colonials played the final five and a half minutes with an extra skater after pulling their goalie but were unable to decode a stingy Lindenwood defense as the Lions took a 5-3 win to secure the weekend sweep.

Lindenwood has now won four consecutive regular season games, which is the longest win streak in the program's four-year history. Saturday night's win was the Lions' fourth come from behind victory this season, and their third after trailing by two goals.
