Women's Volleyball Drops Opening Match at SEMO

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (10-11, 6-7 OVC) suffered a 3-1 loss at Southeast Missouri (15-12, 7-6 OVC) on Friday evening. The Lions were unable to take advantage of a strong start after taking the opening set.

Match Overview
The opening frame featured a total of seven lead changes with neither side opening up more than a three-point advantage, but it was Lindenwood who ultimately prevailed 25-23 behind six kills from Kylee Richey.

However, the Redhawks would take the next three sets, overcoming a four-point deficit for a 26-24 win in set two before leading for nearly the entire third and fourth sets.

Despite the loss, Autumn Bax had another strong showing for Lindenwood, posting a total of 19.5 points on 16 kills, two service aces, and two blocks. She also added a team-high 14 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Kylee Richey was also in double digit kills with 11 terminations while adding a pair of blocks.

Meanwhile, Jade Roth recorded nine kills and a team-leading four blocks while Ashley Geluck went for nine kills and two blocks. Amelia Thro handed out 36 assists in the contest.

Quotable
"We started off well and did a good job of applying pressure with our serve, but defensively we could not capitalize consistently enough", said Lions head coach Will Condon. "We forced them to make adjustments, but we were unable to counter them. They do a good job of consistently applying pressure and were able to turn those into runs of points. We will need to respond better tomorrow. I think we showed we can make them uncomfortable at times, but we have to do a better job of taking advantage of it."
