Women's Volleyball Drops Saturday Rematch at SEMO

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (10-12, 6-8 OVC) dropped their series finale against SEMO (16-12, 8-6 OVC) by a score of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Match Overview
After going ahead with an early 5-0 run in set one, SEMO continued to expand their advantage for the remainder of the frame on the way to a 25-15 win. Set two was more tightly contested, featuring four lead changes. However, after Lindenwood took an 18-17 lead, the Redhawks outscored the Lions 8-3 down the stretch to take a 25-21 victory.

Autumn Bax had a team-leading seven kills on a .467 hitting percentage through the first two frames.

In set three, SEMO separated with 9-1 scoring run after Lindenwood had taken an early 6-2 lead. The Lions answered later in the set with an 8-3 run that tied the score at 18, but the Redhawks scored six of the next seven and held match point with a 24-19 lead.

However, Lindenwood refused to go away easily and scored five straight points to extend the set before taking two separate leads of 26-25 and 27-26. The Lions were unable to find the winning point, though, and SEMO closed out the frame on a 3-0 run to take the match.

Autumn Bax led the Lions with 14 kills on a .414 hitting percentage. It was her 18th match with 10 or more kills this season.

The Lions hit .243 as a team with Kylee Richey chipping in nine kills while Jade Roth contributed eight. Amelia Thro led the match with 34 assists.

Roth also had a strong presence at the net, racking up seven total blocks with two solo rejections and five block assists as LU out-blocked SEMO 8-4 in the contest.

Quotable
"We just had trouble sustaining a higher level of play", said Lindenwood head coach Will Condon. "SEMO made some tough plays and we just did not respond how you need to to win sets. The learning process is tough and does not go how you want it to go. I feel like overall we are trending upward, but every time you advance you find and reach new levels of learning which gets harder."

Next Up
Lindenwood travels to Evansville next week to face Southern Indiana. Match one is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13th.
