Ian Schuller's Career Night Lifts Men's Volleyball Past Maryville

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (3-3) picked up its second consecutive win after defeating Maryville (1-5) in four sets on Saturday night in Hyland Arena.

MATCH OVERVIEW
Both teams came out swinging in the first set, as Lindenwood hit .545 in the opening frame. The Lions won the race to 10 and extended the lead to 15-11 at the media timeout. The Black and Gold pushed their lead to as many as eight at 22-14 after a kill from Ian Schuller. Schuller also finished off the set at 25-17 with a kill in what would be the start of a career night.

In the second set. Lindenwood held a comfortable 17-10 advantage just past the midway point of the stanza. Maryville wouldn't go away, however as the Saints kept chipping away and got the score within one at 21-20, which forced a Lindenwood timeout. The Saints were able to grab a back-and-forth second set, 26-24, and tie the match 1-1 heading to the third.

It was Lindenwood's turn to come from behind in the third set after trailing 15-12 at the media break. A big block by Zach Solomon and Aidan Curcuru knotted the set up at 18-18. Another block from Brendan Louthain eventually put the Lions ahead, while his kill on the following point gave Lindenwood some cushion. The Lions were able to complete the comeback and go ahead 2-1 in the match after winning the set 25-22.

The fourth set was a back-and forth battle, but Lindenwood was able to get some separation at 15-11 after a kill from Louthain. The Lions continued to hold a comfortable advantage after an ace from Carter Stenmark made the score 23-18. The Saints battled back once again though and held off three match points to send the fourth to extras. Extra points were a seesaw battle until 30-28 as Solomon finished off the match.

In the fourth frame, Schuller posted 11 kills, while finishing the night with a career-high 26, all while hitting a career-best .632. Solomon ended the night with 13 digs, which tied a career high. He set a career-best with 55 assists.
