MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Saturday afternoon, men's ice hockey took on Simon Fraser in game two of the series versus the Red Leafs. The Lions would come out on top in a high-scoring affair, defeating Simon Fraser 7-4, to complete the series sweep over the Red Leafs.
GAME OVERVIEW
7:31 into the first period,
Ty Hipkin would redirect a shot past the Red Leafs netminder, to make the score 1-0 in Lindenwood's favor.
Brady Yakesh and
Jake Southgate would be credited with assists on Hipkin's goal. Simon Fraser would score back-to-back goals at 10:51 and 12:06 in the period, scoring while on the power-play, to take their first lead of the game. Before the end of the period,
Ty Hipkin would score his second goal of the game to tie the game up at 2-2. Hipkin's second goal of the game, came from the right wing.
Jake Southgate and
Brady Yakesh would assist Hipkin's second goal on the afternoon. After a period of play, Lindenwood would be tied 2-2 with Simon Fraser. The Lions had 18 shots on target in the frame. Alex Aslanidis stopped eight shots.
1:01 into the second period, Simon Fraser would regain the one-goal lead, scoring while on the power-play. Not more than four minutes later,
Patrick Schmiedlin would slide a shot past Simon Fraser's netminder, from the low slot, tying the game up at 3-3.
David Gagnon and
Jacob Vockler would be credited with assists on Schmiedlin's goal. Less than a minute later, Simon Fraser would get back on the board, leading 4-3 with 14:56 left in the period. Lindenwood would score three straight goals to end the period, with the Lions leading 6-4, after 40 minutes of play. In the period,
Henry Graham stopped two shots. Offensively, Lindenwood found 11 shots on target.
Lindenwood would close out the game scoring an empty netter with 1:23 left in the third period.
Patrick Schmiedlin would be credited with the goal. In the frame, the Lions had 17 shots on net. Graham would stop six shots in the period.
On the afternoon, Lindenwood had 46 shots on target. Aslanidis and Graham would stop a combined 16 shots.
