Baseball Completes Sweep of Mississippi Valley State With Two Wins on Sunday

The Lindenwood baseball team (4-4) picked up two wins on Sunday, completing the sweep of Mississippi Valley State. Lindenwood put up 13 runs in both games.

GAME ONE (8 inn.)

Lindenwood kept the hot bats going and put up three runs in the top of the first, as the first three Lions reached base. The Black and Gold added another run in the top of the second when an RBI single from Kam Edwards brought home Charlie Isom-McCall. Mississippi Valley would answer back with a run in the bottom half of the second inning, making the score 4-1 after two innings.  

The Lions grew their lead to 7-1 in the fourth with a two-out rally. After a pair of walks, Filip Sarota brought them all home with his third homer of the season. Edwards drove in another run in the fifth, extending the advantage to 8-1.

Lindenwood continued to pour it on in the eight with RBI's from Sam Grunberg, Isom-McCall, and Tyler Thompson, allowing the Lions to finish the game off in eight and pick up the 13-2 victory.

Zach Buschschulte (1-1) was terrific on the mound, spinning six innings of one-run ball, while striking out five.

Mississippi Valley State – 0


Lindenwood finished off a sweep of Mississippi Valley State in a rain shorted 13-0 win, picking up two wins on Sunday. The Lions got a run in the top of the first as Thompson drove in Isom-McCall. Thompson drove in another run in the third, putting Lindenwood up 2-0.

The Lions broke the game open with six runs in the fourth. Mitch Cummins, Brodie Barker, Thompson, and Edwards all drove in runs, giving Lindenwood an 8-0 lead. The Black and Gold added three more in the fifth as Evan Funkhouser doubled home two runs and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

Jake Radosevich hit his first home run in a Lindenwood uniform, making the score 12-0 in the sixth. Barker doubled home another run in the inning and Lindenwood picked up the 13-0 victory in game two.

Ethan Smith was terrific on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings, while striking out five en route to his first win of the season.

The Lions will travel to Columbia, Mo. for a midweek matchup with the University of Missouri on Tuesday, February 25. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
