The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team (6-1) picked up its fourth-consecutive win after defeating Detroit Mercy (3-4), 15-13 on Wednesday afternoon in Detroit, Mich.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood opened the scoring with a goal from
Ryleigh Cavanaugh, assisted by
Alissa DiGiacinto. After a Detroit Mercy goal, DiGiacinto found the back of the net to put Lindenwood up 2-1. The Titans scored the last four goals pf the quarter to go up 5-2 after one.
Detroit Mercy got the first goal of the second quarter, but Lindenwood responded with the next two with tallies from
Luci Selander and
Isabella Rulapaugh. Rulapaugh's goal was assisted by Selander, and it cut the deficit to 6-4. Selander scored again at the 7:48 mark of the quarter, pulling Lindenwood within one.
Reese Krieger kept the offensive momentum going with a score that knotted the game at 6.
Another goal by DiGiacinto gave Lindenwood its first lead of the day at 7-6. Less than a minute later,
Emma Walsh put the Lions up by two off a feed from Selander. Detroit Mercy put a stop to the run with a late goal with 1:18 left in the half and would trail 8-7 at the break.
Selander got the scoring started in the third quarter with a man down goal, before Detroit Mercy answered back, making it 9-8 with just over 11 minutes to go in the quarter. The Lions scored the next two goals from DiGiacinto and Bright to go up by three. Detroit Mercy netted the final two goals of the period, cutting the deficit to 11-10 Â
The Titans took the lead, 12-11 with the first two goals of the fourth quarter. Lindenwood tied the game at 12 with a goal from Rulapaugh, but UDM retook the lead, 13-12 with just over six minutes to go in the game. The back-and-forth battle continued with the Lions pulling level thanks to Bright, who was assisted by DiGiacinto. Krieger put the Black and Gold in front, 14-13, and a minute later gave them a two-goal lead. Lindenwood hung on for the 15-13 win.
Ryleigh Cavanaugh was outstanding in the draw circle, compiling 19, which ties the program single-game record.
