The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (5-11, 2-6 MIVA) picked up a big four-set win over No. 14 Lewis (16-5, 6-3 MIVA) on Thursday night inside Hyland Arena
MATCH OVERVIEW
A kill from
Jacob Christopher put Lindenwood up 9-5 early and forced a Lewis timeout. The Flyers clawed back within one at 11-10 as Lindenwood maintained a slim lead until Lewis knotted the set at 18 with a block. Lewis took the lead, 20-19 and the Lions needed a timeout. The Flyers held a 24-23 lead, but Lindenwood finished the set on a 3-0 run, capped off by a big block from
Carter Stenmark to take the set 26-24.
Lindenwood got off to a fast start once again in set two, as a kill by
Brendan Louthain put the Lions up 10-6. The Lions kept building on the lead and held their largest advantage of the set at 18-13 after an ace from Christopher. The Black and Gold finished off the stanza, 25-21 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
Owen Walsh had a team-leading five kills in the second frame.
The third set was a back-and-forth one as Lindenwood grabbed a 12-10 lead after a block from Stenmark. The Flyers went on a 3-0 run to grab the lead, and Lewis would continue to hold a slim lead late in the set at 19-17 which forced a Lindenwood timeout. The Flyers grabbed the set 25-19, but still trailed 2-1 in the match.
Lewis got the first two points of the fourth set, but Lindenwood answered with a 4-1 run to grab the lead. Later in the set, an ace from
Zach Solomon gave the Lions a 14-9 lead. The Black and Gold took a commanding 17-10 lead after a kill from Louthain and Lewis needed a timeout. A few points later,
Amir Grant put the Lions up 20-12 and they would take the set 25-15 behind a .733 hitting percentage in the frame.
