The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team (4-1) picked up its second-consecutive road win after defeating Kent State (2-4), 14-11 on Sunday afternoon in Kent, Ohio.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions jumped out in front 2-0 early with goals from
Luci Selander who was assisted by
Isabella Jahkhah.
Emma Walsh doubled Lindenwood's lead off a feed from Selander at the 11:22 mark. After a Kent State goal cut the deficit in half,
Isabella Rulapaugh found the back of the net, assisted by Resse Krieger to put Lindenwood up 3-1.
Kent State netted a goal with under 30 seconds in the quarter, cutting the deficit to one. However,
Alissa DiGiacinto used her speed to earn a late free-position attempt and converted, putting the Lions up 4-2 after one.
Selander opened the scoring in the second, extending the Lions lead to 5-2. Kent State got back within one at the 8:58 mark of the middle frame, which forced a Lindenwood timeout. The Black and Gold generated a sixth goal from their defense as
Sarah Chodosh picked off a pass and found Rulapaugh who put Lindenwood up 6-4. The two teams traded goals to end the half with Selander finishing off her hat trick and the Lions led 7-5 at the break.
Krieger began the third quarter with a score, giving Lindenwood a three-goal lead. DiGiacinto pushed the Lions lead to 9-5 with a goal. After a score by the Golden Flashes, DiGiacinto would score again, assisted by Krieger, putting the Black and Gold up 10-6 after three.
Kent State scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, making the score 10-8. Rulapaugh settled the Lions down with a goal, assisted by Krieger to go back in front by three. The Golden Flashes responded quickly to stay within striking distance at 11-9 with just over eight minutes to go. Selander netted her fourth goal of the day a minute later, giving Lindenwood a 12-9 advantage.
The Golden Flashes chipped away and scored the next two goals to get within one at 12-11, but Krieger made her way through the defense and found the back of the net with just over two minutes to go and made the score 13-11. DiGiacinto sealed the game with her fourth of the game and Lindenwood earned the 14-11 victory.
Aislinn Sweeney made 13 saves in net.
