The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team (5-1) picked up an 18-12 victory over Akron (4-3) in its home opener on Saturday afternoon.
Luci Selander tied the program record for goals in a single game with nine.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead less than four minutes in with goals from
Alissa DiGiacinto,
Reese Krieger, and two from
Luci Selander. Akron scored the next two to cut the deficit to 4-2. Selander settled things down, finishing off her first quarter hat trick, putting the Lions up 5-2. The Black and Gold kept the offensive momentum going with goals from DiGiacinto and
Emma Walsh, assisted by
Isabella Rulapaugh, giving Lindenwood a 7-2 lead after one.
The two teams traded goals to begin the second quarter. Selander scored her fourth of the of the day to put Lindenwood up 9-3. Selander scored two more times in the frame and the Lions held a 12-5 lead at the break.
Akron opened the second half with the first two goals, until
Breylin Bright halted the run, extending the lead to 13-7. After a Zips goal, Selander found the back of the net two more times before the end of the period, giving Lindenwood a 15-8 lead after three.
The Zips scored first to begin the fourth, but goals from DiGiacinto and Selander put Lindenwood up 17-9.
Olivia Tighe put the exclamation mark on the home opener with a goal that made it 18-9. Lindenwood picked up the victory by a final score of 18-12.
