The Lindenwood men's golf team captured the Lindenwood Invitational title, carding a team score of 869 across three rounds at Missouri Bluffs Golf Club
OVERVIEW
The Lions opened the tournament with a team score of 292, led by
Renato Filho who carded a one-under 70. During his round, Filho had four birdies. Coming in just behind him was
Tyler May who fired a 72 with the help of five birdies across the opening 18 holes.
Brennan Strubberg also had four birdies in the opening round on his way to a 73.
A group of
Sil Beyers,
Santiago Juesas Benet,
Mackenzie Holmes, and
Samuel Bergenstein each carded a 77 while
Sam Emrick rounded out the lineup with a 79.
In round two, Lindenwood registered a 289, led by Beyers with an even par 71. Filho shot a one-over 72 with the help of four birdies. Juesas also fired a 72, including an eagle on the par 5 15
th. He was one of five players to record an eagle on day one of the tournament.
Teams had to deal with windy conditions on day one and with the strong second round, Lindenwood led by three shots after 36 holes. The Lions led the whole field in par three scoring and were second in total birdies with 28. Filho paced the entire tournament shooting three-under on par 3s.
Lindenwood carded a 288 as a team in round three to help secure the top spot. Strubberg paced the Lions with a 68 during the final round, including five under on the back nine, including an eagle on 18. As a result, he jumped five spots on the leaderboard and finished in fifth.
Filho finished off his solid tournament with a one-over 72, as did Juesas Benet.
Mackenzie Holmes had his best round of the tournament as an individual with a 75 that included 14 pars. Beyers wrapped up his tournament with a 76. The Lions finished the tournament 11-under on par 5s and they won by five strokes.
