Cavanaugh Scores Four Goals in Loss For Lacrosse

The Lindenwood lacrosse team (9-3, 2-2 ASUN) fell by a score of 23-12 to Liberty (9-5, 4-0 ASUN) on Thursday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.

GAME OVERVIEW
Liberty scored the first three goals of the game before Isabella Rulapaugh found the back of the net, assisted by Breylin Bright, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Flames netted the final four goals of the quarter to hold a 7-1 lead after one.

The Flames opened the second quarter on a 3-0 run to go up 10-1. Ryleigh Cavanaugh put an end to the run with her seventh goal of the season as the Lions trailed 10-2. Liberty scored two more before Lindenwood rattled off the next four with two goals coming from Luci Selander, and one each from Cavanaugh, and Tatum Bryant closing the gap to 12-6. In a quarter of runs, Liberty netted the next three to go up 15-6, before Rulapaugh got her second of the day, making the score 15-7. Liberty scored one more right before the end of the quarter and took a 16-7 lead into halftime.

The two teams traded goals to begin the third quarter as Reese Krieger eventually found the back of the net, pushing the score to 17-8. Two more goals from the Lions off the sticks of Alissa DiGiacinto and Cavanaugh, cut the Flames lead to 17-10. With just over four minutes to go in the quarter, DiGiacinto scored her second of the day moving the score to 18-11. The Flames tallied the final three goals of the quarter, holding a 21-11 lead after three.

Cavanaugh opened the scoring in the final quarter at the 11:10 mark, making the score 21-12. Liberty scored the final two goals of the game and won 23-12.
