GAME OVERVIEWÂ
Avery Wapp (L, 6-5) got the start on the mound for Lindenwood and pitched 5.2 innings allowing one run on seven hits. Wapp struck out four and walked two. Ryleigh Owens came in to relieve Wapp and threw 1.1 scoreless innings while walking a pair. Â
The Redhawks manufactured a run in the top half of the first thanks to three singles off Wapp and narrowly held their one-run lead until the top of the sixth. After a single and walk put runners on first and second, Wapp was pulled for Owens. Owens induced a groundball, but the SEMO pinch-hitter beat the throw by Anna Sanders scoring a run and extended the Redhawk lead to two. Â
The Lions had opportunities early in the game as they stranded the bases loaded in both the first and second innings but attempted a comeback in the sixth after Tori Hatton was hit by pitch. The next batter, Irelynn West, hit a ground-rule double to deep left center putting runners at second and third. Danielle Franz then pinch hit for Sanders and singled to right field scoring Lindenwood's lone run. The Lions soon loaded the bases for a third time in the game but were unable to drive in the tying run. Â
Owens pitched around a bases loaded jam in the top of the seventh, but the Lions were unable push the tying run across in the bottom of the inning sealing a 2-1 to the hands of the rival Redhawks.  Â
