Women's Soccer Suffers Setback Against UT Martin

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Despite featuring two of the best defensive units in the OVC, offense was the headline of Thursday night's Lindenwood women's soccer game at Hunter Stadium, as the Lions (4-3-2, 1-1-0 OVC) suffered a 4-2 defeat against UT Martin (1-6-4, 1-0-1 OVC). Lindenwood scored multiple goals for the first time since late August but were unable to overcome a three-goal second half from the Skyhawks.

Game Overview
It did not take long for the scoring to begin, as Mackenzie Compton scored 23 seconds in to give Lindenwood an early lead. It was Compton's first goal and points of the season. Anna Johnson assisted on the score, moving her into the team lead for points with six.

The Skyhawks answered 30 minutes later, as Ava Huntrods got her head on a cross from Alexandra Weihs to redirect the ball on goal for a score.

Lindenwood regained the lead shortly thereafter, with Allison Schrumpf converting on a penalty kick after she had been fouled in the box during a corner delivery. The goal gave the Lions a 2-1 advantage heading into the halftime break.

However, UTM equalized less than three minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal by Peyton Cook from the top of the box.

The game remained tied until late in the 66th minute when Anna Østergaard Ibsen scored to give the Skyhawks their first lead before Peyton Cook made it two goals on the night with a score in the 74th minute to put UTM up 4-2.

Lindenwood took four shots in the game's remaining 16 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Lions took a total of 17 shots in the game with 10 shots on goal, compared to 18 shots with 12 on goals for the Skyhawks. Mackenzie Compton led Lindenwood with five shots.

The loss moved LU's all-time record against UTM to 2-2, with both losses coming at home.
