Women's Volleyball Falls In Four Sets to EIU

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (4-6, 0-2 OVC) fell 3-1 against Eastern Illinois (8-4, 2-0 OVC) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Kylee Richey matched her season-high with a team-leading 14 kills in the match.

Game Overview
The Lions came out of the gates slowly, never leading in the opening set after falling behind early. Autumn Bax, Ashley Geluck, and Kylee Richey each had three kills in the frame.

Lindenwood gained an early 7-5 advantage in the second set but were unable to recover following a 7-0 EIU run that put them in a five-point hole. Richey continued to front the Lindenwood attack with four more kills.

The Lions got out to another early lead in set three but found themselves trailing by five points midway through the frame. However, the gold and black failed to go down without a fight and went on an 8-1 run out of the media timeout to regain a two-point advantage. The Panthers clawed their way back to a 21-20 lead, but LU refused to be denied and finished the set on a 5-2 run to force a fourth set.

Lindenwood battled in set four but fell short 25-19. Richey led the way with four kills in the frame.

Two Lions finished the match with double-digit kills, including Kylee Richey (14) and Autumn Bax (13), while Greta Shadewald posted a team-high 27 assists.

Four Lions were in double digit digs, led by Dana Grib and Alayna Rudebeck with 13 apiece, while Shannon Monahan and Amelia Thro both added 11. The mark was a Lindenwood career-high for Thro, who also posted a career-high nine assists.

Quotable
"We started off slow and it took us two sets to get our footing. I thought we fought hard in 3 and 4. Some aspects of our game were better, but we had deficits in other areas that hurt us in different ways. I thought we went into a tough environment this weekend and competed but we are still learning how to put it all together to win three sets. I think we learned some things about ourselves that we will build on this week in practice." – Will Condon

Next Up
