ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's soccer team (3-2-2, 0-0-0 OVC) dropped a tough non-conference match against Southern Illinois (6-1-0, 0-0-0 MVC) by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Game Overview
After honoring seniors
Ava Blum,
Rachel Jackson,
Lily Sutter, and Reece Ward prior to kickoff, the Lions came out playing with inspiration in the first half. Lindenwood outshot SIU 21-4 in the frame, surpassing their previous season-high for shots in game in the opening 45.
However, despite the persistent offensive pressure, the Lions were unable to find a goal, with Saluki goalkeeper Lily Murray making six saves in the half, including one on a
Tasneem Dizdarevic penalty kick attempt in the game's 15th minute.
The script was flipped in the second half, as it was Southern Illinois on the front foot coming out of the break. Their early aggression paid off with a Aylie Haycock goal in the 52nd minute that gave the Salukis a 1-0 advantage.
Lindenwood was unable to find an equalizer, as they only managed to fire off three shots in the half with just one shot on goal.
Despite the defeat,
Caroline Ritter had another solid showing in goal with eight saves.
Mackenzie Compton led the Lindenwood offense with six shots, while
Tasneem Dizdarevic and
Anna Johnson both posted a pair of shots on goal.
The loss ended the Lions' 10-game unbeaten streak at Hunter Stadium and dropped their all-time record against Southern Illinois to 1-1-1.
