DULUTH, Minn. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (9-11-0) fell 8-4 at No. 5 Minnesota Duluth (16-6-0, 7-5-0 NCHC) on Saturday evening. The Lions pulled to within one with just over 16 minutes remaining, but the Bulldogs scored four straight goals to break the game open.
Game Overview
Despite outshooting the Bulldogs 9-8, UMD outscored the Lions 3-0 in the first period, finding a pair of goals in the game's first three minutes – including a power play conversion by Zam Plante – before Joey Pierce scored the Duluth's third goal at the 16:27 mark to extend the lead.
The Lions scored a pair of goals in the second period, with Oliver Houde scoring on a wrist shot from the faceoff circle after controlling a pass from
Michael Bevilacqua, before
Anselmo Rego took advantage of some traffic in front of the net to score from close range.
Drew Kuzma was credited with the assist.
The game remained 3-2 at the second intermission before Duluth extended their lead 42 seconds into the third period with Max Plante power play goal.
Jake Southgate would score on a breakaway at the 5:42 mark to cut the deficit back down to one, but the Bulldogs would answer with four straight goals – including two on the power play – to gain an 8-3 lead.
Lindenwood scored a power play goal of their own at the 19-minute mark with
Charles Savoie converting on an assist from
Louis-Philippe Fontaine, making the score 8-4.
Louis-Philippe led LU with two points on a pair of assists while
Michael Bevilacqua registered a helper to extend his point streak to five games.
