Lions Down Skyhawks with Six Goal Performance

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (10-11-0) overcame a slow start to earn a convincing 6-2 win over Stonehill (4-15-2) at home on Friday night. After falling behind 1-0 in the early going, the Lions rattled off six consecutive goals before the Skyhawks could find an answer.

Game Overview
Stonehill took advantage of a sluggish start by Lindenwood to gain an early advantage with an Anthony Galante goal at the 7:17 mark of the first period. However, the Lions would surge ahead in the frame's 15th minute behind goals from Charles Savoie at 14:26 and Olivier Houde at 14:57.

The Lions would add to their lead just before the first intermission with a Jacob Fletcher goal assisted by Savoie and Houde at the 19:16 mark.

LU kept their foot to the throttle in the second period, adding two more goals to extend their lead to 5-1. Jake Southgate joined the party with a power play goal from the slot set up by Giovanni Morneau and Ethan Elias before Louis-Philippe Fontaine got in the scoring column after receiving a spectacular feed from Morneau as he charged toward the crease. Southgate was also credited with an assist on the play.

Lindenwood added one more goal in the third period, as Giovanni Morneau cashed in for another power play conversion on assists from Nolan Seed and Ethan Elias. Morneau was the sixth different Lion to record a goal in the contest as he registered his team-leading third point on the night.

Lindenwood finished the night 2-3 with the man advantage, making it their fisrst game with multiple power play goals since going 2-9 against LIU on November 28th.

Klayton Knapp was nails between the pipes for LU, posting 30 saves – including a pair of impressive glove saves in the first period – as he blanked the Skyhawks for over 50 minutes between scores.
