Men's Hockey Drops Game One at Alaska

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (11-12-0) dropped the front half of their two-game set at Alaska (7-13-2) by a score of 5-2 on Friday night. The Lions created a slight 36-34 advantage in shots on goal but were unable to take full advantage of several Nanook penalties, finishing the night just 1-7 on the power play.

Game Overview
Alaska took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, with Jhett Larson striking just over nine minutes into the game to put the Nanooks ahead before Michael Sitara scored late in the period to double their advantage. Lindenwood was only able to generate five shots on target in the frame compared to 14 for Alaska.

After the Nanooks took a late penalty in the first period, the Lions started the second period on the power play and capitalized with an Ethan Elias goal at the 1:13 mark. Elias tapped in the rebound off a shot by Jake Southgate for the first goal of his college career. Louis-Philippe Fontaine was also credited with an assist on the play.

However, Lindenwood was unable to take advantage of the newfound momentum, and at the 6:18 mark of the second period, Alaska went back ahead by a pair with a goal by Rylen Roersma.

Neither team scored through the remainder of the second period, but the Nanooks were able to put up another two-spot in the third with a second consecutive goal from Roersma at 11:26 and a power play conversion by Jackson Anderoson at 14:01 to grow their lead to 5-1. Anselmo Rego would connect on an assist from Nolan Seed with 10 seconds remaining to give Lindenwood their second and final goal of the contest.
