Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Molly Henderson's Four Point Third Period Leads Women's Hockey To a 4-0 Victory on Saturday

SYRCAUSE, N.Y. – The Lindenwood Women's Hockey team (9-17-2, 7-10-1 AHA) picked up a 4-0 shutout win on the road in Saturday afternoon's finale with the Syracuse Orange behind big performances from Molly Henderson and Josey Dunne-Weeks. Henderson recorded four points on all four goals scored in the contest, scoring two goals and adding two assists while Dunne-Weeks added one goal and one assist in the third period to finish with a three point weekend.

Similar to yesterday's game, the first two frames featured no goals as both teams played well defensively. Lexington Secreto got the start in net once again for the Lions and stopped all 13 shots that she faced in the opening period, including three straight saves in a matter of eight seconds midway through the period to keep the Orange off the scoreboard. Paige Cline led Lindenwood offensively with four shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play as LU recorded 10 shots on goal in the first. The second period saw the penalty kill unit for Lindenwood kill off a Syracuse power play midway through the second as Zsofia Pazmandi and Lucie Quarto each had a block while short handed and Secreto made two saves. Secreto was once again huge for the Lions as she had 21 saves through the first 40 minutes as the game remained scoreless after two periods.

Less than a minute into the third period, Molly Henderson scored the game's first goal of the game off the opening faceoff after the Syracuse Blue liner mishandled the puck and Henderson had a breakaway from the blue line on in and snuck it under the pads of the Orange goaltender to give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Henderson won a faceoff in Syracuse's defensive zone that went straight to the stick of Paige Cline who sent the puck into the back of the net on a wrist shot to extend the Lions lead at 2-0 with 16:30 to go in the contest. Josey Dunne-Weeks would find the back of the net at the 10:08 mark of the third period behind assists from Zsofia Pazmandi and Molly Henderson pushing the lead out to 3-0 with 10 minutes to go. Henderson scored her second goal of the game on the power play with under three minutes to go as the Lions picked up their ninth win of the season and seventh win in the AHA.

Lexington Secreto recorded her second shutout of the season in the 4-0 win, making 37 saves in the contest with 16 of her saves coming in the third period. The Lions will now return to Centene Community Ice Center for their next four games against RIT and Penn State. Puck drop against RIT on Friday, January 30 is set for 3 p.m. CT.
