MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's hockey team (10-17-2, 8-10-1 AHA) secured a huge 6-2 win over RIT (14-14-0, 9-10-0 AHA) at Centene Community Ice Center on Friday afternoon.
Tatiana Blichova (2g-1a) and
Molly Henderson (1g-2a) led the Lions with three points apiece, while
Silje Gundersen recorded her third multi-goal effort of the season with a pair of scores.
The Tigers took an early lead at the 7:19 mark of the opening period with a Tilli Keraenen goal, but Lindenwood answered just over five minutes later with an unassisted goal from
Molly Henderson after the senior forward intercepted a pass deep in the RIT defensive zone.
The Lions scored three goals in the second period, including a pair of power play conversions.
Silje Gundersen scored her first goal of the day on a slap shot from the faceoff circle off assists from
Tatiana Blichova and
Rhaea Flint at the 1:34 mark before Blichova scored a goal of her own at the 6:08 mark, following up a shot by
Molly Henderson to extend the LU lead to 3-1.
Ellie Muscedere was also credited with an assist on the play. Blichova made it back-to-back goals less than two minutes later, scoring from close range following a pair of great passes by
Zsofia Pazmandi and
Michaela Paulinyova.
Lindenwood made it five unanswered goals just over twelve minutes into the final period, with
Ellie Muscedere scoring on an unassisted snipe from the faceoff circle. RIT answered at the 12:22 mark with a breakaway score by Olivia Urbach, but that would be the final goal of the game before
Silje Gundersen scored on an empty net with 36 seconds remaining to put an exclamation point on the 6-2 victory.
Molly Henderson and
Paige Cline picked up assists on the score.
The Lions created a stark 38-25 advantage in shots on goal, outshooting the Tigers 34-12 through the first two periods. Lindenwood also won the special teams battle, converting on two of five power play while going 2-2 on the penalty kill.
