Men's Hockey Unable to Complete Comeback Against Canisius

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (9-9-0) came up short against Canisius (9-9-2, 4-6-2 AHA) on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 4-3. After falling behind by three, the Lions scored a pair of quick goals midway through the third period but were unable to complete the comeback despite their relentless offensive pressure.

Game Overview
Canisius took a 2-0 lead in the first period following a goal off the stick Alton McDermott less than three minutes into the game and another score by Rhys Chiddenton at the 12:54 mark. The Golden Griffins looked poised to carry their multi-score advantage into the first intermission, but Olivier Houde connected for a power play goal with just 13 seconds remaining in the frame to slice the deficit in half. Michael Bevilacqua and Jacob Fletcher assisted on the score.

The Lions were unable to capitalize on the sudden momentum change, and the Griffs pushed the lead back to a pair with another Chiddenton score early in the second period. The score remained 3-1 until the 6:39 mark of the third period, when McDermott found the back of the net again to extend the Canisius lead to three.

However, the Lions were not going down without a fight, and with less than ten minutes remaining in the game, Drew Kuzma brought LU closer with a goal assisted by Adam Raesler and Tyler Loughman before Giovanni Morneau touched twine on a feed from Nolan Seed just thirty seconds later to make the score 4-3.

The Lions would have three separate power play opportunities down the stretch, including the final 31 seconds with the man advantage, but were unable to find an equalizer as the comeback bid fell short.

Lindenwood suffered the loss despite creating a massive 75-26 advantage in shots on goal, including 34-6 difference in the third period. It was the most shots LU had recorded in a single game this season.
