Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Season Comes To An End With 3-2 Double OT Loss

ERIE, Pa. - The Lindenwood Women's Hockey team (14-22-2) fell in Game Two of the AHA Semifinal round at Mercyhurst in double overtime by a score of 3-2 and bringing the 2025-206 season to a close. Silje Gundersen scored both goals for the Lions in the game and led the team in shots on goal with six.

Gundersen started off the first period by scoring a goal 23 seconds into the game to give Lindenwood a very quick 1-0 lead. Madison Bowtell made 13 saves in the opening period and kept the Lakers off the scoreboard as the Lions were outshot 13-6 in the game's first 20 minutes of action. Gundersen extended the lead early in the second period at the 3:26 mark with an assist from Josey Dunne-Weeks to put the Lions up 2-0, but Mercyhurst scored a few minutes later at the 6:38 mark to cut the deficit to one. Lindenwood had a power play late in the second period, but was unable to convert on the five-on-four and held on to a one goal advantage entering the third and final period.

The Lakers evened the score with less than seven minutes to go in the third period and the Lions were once again awarded a power play late in the third, but couldn't find the back of the net as the score remained tied at two. The game eventually headed to overtime and the Lions needed a win in order for their season to continue. The first overtime period saw Bowtell make 10 saves to keep the game knotted at two, and was huge for the Lions all game long as she ended the game with a career-high 40 saves, but it wasn't enough as the Lakers scored the game-winning goal at the 7:35 mark of the second overtime period to advance to the AHA championship game next weekend. The Lions were outshot 43-28 in the contest, and recorded nine shots combined in both overtime periods.

Despite the loss, the Lions set a program record for the most wins in a single season with 14, and won their most conference games in program history with 11. Lindenwood also made history by winning their first playoff game in nearly a decade and did so by winning their first ever home playoff game in program history. LU will look to build off this momentum heading into next season and will be led by their young core of Forwards in Tatiana Blichova, Michaela Paulinyova, Silje Gundersen, and Paige Cline
