Big Second Period Lifts Lions to 3-1 Win at Stonehill

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (13-12-0) started off their trip to New England with a 3-1 win over Stonehill (5-20-2) on Friday night. All three of Lindenwood's goals came in the second period after the Lions entered the first intermission trailing 1-0.

Game Overview
The Skyhawks came out swinging and landed the first punch in the early moments of the first period, with Joseph Grainda scoring at the 1:48 mark to put Stonehill in front. However, the remainder of the period was a stalemate, with neither team finding another goal while ending the frame nearly even in shots on target, which were 15-14 in favor of the Skyhawks.

Olivier Houde broke the seal for Lindenwood at the 3:18 mark of the second period, scoring from close-range on a rush that featured a pair of great passes by Jacob Fletcher and Nolan Seed. The game remained tied for the next 12 minutes before Michael Bevilacqua snuck one past the Stonehill goaltender from the top of the circle to give the Lions the lead. Drew Kuzma and Olivier Houde were credited with assists as Bevilacqua extended his point streak to eight games.

Lindenwood extended the lead with just over a minute left in the period, as Brody Mortensen connected for his second goal of the season on a scorcher from just below the blue line. Connor Gengle assisted on the play.

Neither side was able to touch twine in the third period, combining for just 14 total shots while going a combined 0-5 on the power play. Lindenwood ended the game 0-3 with the man advantage while Stonehill finished the evening 0-5.

Liam Beerman was fantastic in net for the Lions, turning away 38 shots and holding the Skyhawks scoreless for over 58 minutes to improve his record to 8-4-0 on the season. It was Beerman's third highest save total of the season.
